Fracture Mechanical Analysis of Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shells with Cracks

The fracture mechanical behaviour of thin-walled structures with cracks is highly significant for structural strength design, safety and reliability analysis, defect evaluation. In this study, the effects various factors on parameters, crack initiation angles plastic zones cylindrical shells are investigated. First, based J-integral displacement extrapolation methods, stress intensity circumferential compound studied using linear elastic mechanics, respectively. Second, theory maximum tensile cracks, number singular elements at a tip varied to determine node element corresponding stress, angle predicted. Third, theory, size zone shell analysed, elastic-plastic mechanics. results show that in front does not increase after reaching yield enters stage development, predicted an oblique mainly depends its original inclination angle. conclusions have theoretical engineering significance selection criteria determination failure modes cracks.
